Backup Your Database to Floppy

This program was designed to compress and backup your Field Data database to a 3.5" floppy disk so that you can transfer it to a new computer. This program can span multiple floppies if necessary.

Note:  This program does NOT merge two databases together. The new computer's existing Field Data database WILL be overwritten. This program works only if your client database is in the standard place: C:\FDIW\DATABASE\CA_DATA.MDB. You can find out where your database is located by clicking Options in the Field Data program.  The location is displayed at the very top of the Options screen.

If you have a custom installation that places your Client Database on a network drive or on a second drive, we recommend using a full version of PKZIP. You can purchase and download it at: http://www.pkware.com

The following information will instruct you in backing up your database. IMPORTANT NOTE: You can restore the data to a different computer, but if you already have saved quotes on that computer the quotes will be replaced by the quotes included in the restore.

If you plan on running this program on two different computers, you must install this program on both computers. If you don't have Internet access on either computer, this can be accomplished by saving the file to a floppy and then copying the program from the floppy to the FDIW folder.

Backup Instructions

1. Click the download button and save the file to your C:\FDIW folder.
2. Click Start, Run, and type C:\FDIW\DB2Floppy.exe.
3. After the installation is complete, click Start, Run, then type C:\FDIW\DBSAVE.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

Restore Instructions

1. Click the download button and save the file to your C:\FDIW folder.
2. Click Start, Run, and type C:\FDIW\DB2Floppy.exe.
3. After the installation is complete. Click Start, Run, and type C:\FDIW\DBGET.

4. Follow the instructions on the screen.
